The morning after the coldest January night in years, Wendover Shed was visited by an ITN television crew to record a story on registered warm spaces. A short piece was broadcast on the ITV Evening News on Saturday 11 January, where chairman Bob Duggan was interviewed by presenter Ellie Pitt about the popularity of the Shed as a social resource that’s also comfortably warm on cold days. Camera operator Tony Day and ITV producer Khadiya Kothia were also there.
Warm Welcome Spaces all over the country can be found via www.warmwelcome.uk. They are places where anyone is welcome to go if they can’t keep warm in their own homes, or simply if they need some company and a place to feel comfortable.
Wendover Shed is one of two Warm Welcome Spaces in Wendover this winter. Anyone can drop in for a warm-up, hot drink and a chat if they like, during opening times. These are 10:00 to 12:00 on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and 14:00 to 16:00 on Thursdays. The Shed is outside central Wendover on Hogtrough Lane (HP22 6NJ), on the allotments just past the Rifle Club. It’s on the Ridgeway route so handy for passing walkers and cyclists too.
The other Warm Welcome space is the Christian Centre on Aylesbury Road (HP22 6JG). This is open on Tuesdays only, from 10:00 to 15:00.
In previous years Wendover Library has also offered Warm Space facilities, but that is temporarily out of action during the building work.
Wendover Shed was also in the news in late November, when at the Proud of Bucks Awards it was awarded Highly Commended in the Outstanding Group category.
The Shed's stall at the Wendover Christmas Lights Switch-on fair also raised £690 from the sale of items made by the Shedders.
