The Well
It may sound crazy, but yes, we plan to drill for water at The Hog. The aim is to supply our grey and eventually drinking water needs, and that will probably mean going down 10 or 12 meters. Our MK I well reached 3m through manual labour. MK II brought in some mechanical assistance from Subaru Geo-Environmental Services and we reached 8m, but no water, yet! Watch this space for MK III!
The Outdoor Space
Our covered outdoor space in front of The Hog allows us to work outside in all weathers and also provides a supporting structure for our solar array powering the Shed. This build was was possible through a very kind grant from the Lionel Abel-Smith Trust and some private contributions.
The Stables
We plan to to use The Stables next door to The Hog as an extension to our workshop. Our initial activity is to secure the building so that we can store materials. This mainly involves fixing and adding a top section to the door!
We very much want to retain the character of The Stables with a sympathetic restoration.
The Electrics
The Wendover Shed team had always planned to use solar and wind-generated power as our home is entirely off-grid. We were fortunate enough to receive grants from the Clare Foundation and the Wendover and Village Board of Bucks Council and thanks to them our full solar array is now fully operational.
The Hog
Our Starter Shed, The Hog - a Groundhog Welfare Container kindly donated by GE HealthCare, is now in place at its home on Hogtrough Lane. We held our official Open Day on Saturday, 6 March, 2023.
The story of The Hog, where it came from and how it got to us, can be found here.
The Workshop
Once The Hog was in place we needed to start fitting out The Workshop.
Our workshop space is approximately 6m x 2.2m and initially just fitted with 5 x 240v double sockets, 2 small bar heaters, 2 strip lights, and a couple of noticeboards.
